The EITI Board Chair John Fridrik Reinfeldt and Head of the EITI International Secretariat Jonas Moberg on Wednesday 25th August 2016 meet President Ernest Bia Koroma to inform him about the new EITI 2016 Standard adopted at the 7th EITI Global conference in Lima.
In his presentation, Fredrik said he was pleased with the progress Sierra Leone has made so far since joining the EITI in 2006. He said the Online Repository which holds information on mining license allocations and other extractive Revenues data is a major step towards mining transparency and accountability.
Speaking on the 2016 EITI Standard, Fredrik said Beneficial Ownership Disclosure will become mandatory in 2020; that as of 1st January 2017, EITI implementing countries should published Beneficial Ownership Disclosure roadmaps.
In response, the President welcomed the new EITI Standard and expressed his government wiliness to implementing the requirements. President Koroma said Sierra Leone has come a long way in its EITI implementation process and that several legations have been passed by parliament which aimed aim at addressing the challenges associated with the sector.
Earlier, Fredrik met SLEITI Chair, Saidu Conton Sesay who also doubles as the Chief of Staff, Office of the President. The discussions held focused on the governance structure of the SLEITI MSG among others.
