The Sierra Leone Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (SLEITI) is part of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), the global standard for the good governance of oil, gas, and mineral resources. SLEITI promotes open and accountable management of extractive resources and seeks to strengthen government and company systems, inform public debates, and enhance trust.

The SLEITI process is a government led initiative that is anchored in the Office of the Presidency, with direct oversight and supervision by the Honourable Vice President, and leadership of the MSG provided by the Minister of State in the Office of the Vice President.

Sierra Leone became a member of the EITI in 2008 and later established the Multi-stakeholder Group (MSG) which is the governing body responsible to oversee its operations to ensure the EITI process contributes to reforms in the management of the extractive sector. The MSG is a tripartite body comprising government, companies operating in the extractive sector and civil society organizations.

Since signing up, Sierra Leone has achieved remarkable progress in promoting transparency and accountability in the extractive sector, scoring its highest overall score of 87.5 in the 2022 EITI Validation. In sustaining the EITI process, Sierra Leone has published twelve (12) EITI reports covering 2007 to 2023; containing literature on contextual data, legal framework, fiscal regime, licenses and contracts, production, exports, revenues, social and environmental payments, contribution of the sector to the economy etc.
